If you've tried to put up with it, this is for you.

Common reasons people book

Most people come to me after weeks or months of putting up with the same ache. Acupuncture supports circulation, eases muscular tension and calms the nervous system, which is why it's often used for pain that feels stubborn or stress-related.

Chronic painNeck & shoulder tensionPersistent back painJoint stiffnessTension headaches & migrainesMuscle tightness & sports strainStress & tension

Acupuncture supports your body's own recovery and is not a replacement for medical care. The evidence is strongest for chronic pain, tension-type headaches and migraine prevention, and I'll always be honest about what is realistic for you. If you have a new, severe or worsening symptom, please see your GP.

Questions before you book

How much does acupuncture cost in Eastbourne?

A 40-minute acupuncture session at The Healing Hand costs £45. A course of four sessions is £160, which works out at £40 a session. A 90-minute combination session of deep tissue massage, hot stones, cupping and acupuncture is £65.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel very little. The needles are finer than a human hair, and you might notice a slight tingle or warmth. I go slowly and check in with you throughout, and you can ask to pause at any point.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition and goals. Some people notice a difference after one or two sessions; long-standing issues usually respond best to a short course. After your first visit I'll give you an honest idea of what to expect.

How long does acupuncture take to work?

It varies from person to person. Some people feel looser or calmer within a day or two of the first session, while others see change gradually over a few sessions. If I don't think acupuncture is likely to help you, I'll say so.

What can acupuncture help with?

The evidence is strongest for chronic pain, tension-type headaches and migraine prevention. Many people also come for neck and shoulder tension, joint stiffness and stress-related muscle tightness. For other conditions the evidence is mixed, so I'll be straightforward about what is realistic.

Does acupuncture work for back pain?

Research on acupuncture for low back pain is mixed. Some people find it eases their symptoms and others don't. After assessing you I'll tell you honestly whether it's likely to help, and whether it's better alongside exercise or physiotherapy. If your back pain is new, severe or comes with numbness or weakness, see your GP first.

Is acupuncture safe? Are there side effects?

Acupuncture is generally safe when carried out by a trained practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. Minor bruising, mild soreness or feeling tired afterwards are the most common effects and usually pass quickly. Serious problems are rare.

Is there anyone who shouldn't have acupuncture?

Tell me before treatment if you are pregnant, take blood-thinning medication, have a bleeding disorder, a pacemaker or an infection near the treatment area, or tend to faint. Treatment can often be adjusted, and sometimes it's better to wait or to see your GP first.

What happens in the first session?

We start with a short consultation about your pain, history and lifestyle, then move into treatment so you start feeling the benefit straight away. I'll explain what I'm doing and what to expect afterwards.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up to the knee or elbow. If treatment needs access to your back or shoulders, you'll be covered and comfortable throughout.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have a new, severe or worsening symptom, please see your GP first.

Who will treat me and what are their qualifications?

Samir Mlik, founder of The Healing Hand, holds a TCM Acupuncture Diploma from Total Therapy Training in London and is also trained in Chinese cupping therapy, hot stone massage and oriental diagnostics. You'll see Samir at every session.

Where are you based and how do I get an appointment?
