Questions before you book

How much does a massage cost in Eastbourne?

At The Healing Hand a 45-minute deep tissue massage is £45, massage with cupping (55 minutes) is £55, and a 40-minute hot stone session is £55. The 90-minute Full Combo session of deep tissue massage, hot stones, cupping and acupuncture is £65.

What's the difference between deep tissue and hot stone massage?

Deep tissue uses firm, slow pressure to release tension held in the deeper muscle layers, and suits aches, tightness and postural strain. Hot stone massage uses warmed stones alongside massage techniques to relax the muscles and calm the nervous system. If you're not sure which suits you, tell me what's bothering you and I'll recommend one.

What is a medical deep tissue massage?

It is the name for our focused deep tissue session. Rather than a general relaxation massage, it targets specific areas of tension, tightness and postural strain. It is a hands-on therapy and not a replacement for medical care.

Will deep tissue massage hurt?

It can feel intense in tight areas, but it shouldn't feel painful. Pressure is adjusted throughout, and you can tell me to ease off or go firmer at any point.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Some people feel mild tenderness or tiredness for a day or two after deep work, a bit like after exercise. Drinking water, gentle movement and rest usually help it pass. If anything feels worse or you're worried, get in touch or speak to your GP.

Can I combine massage with cupping or acupuncture?

Yes. Massage and cupping is a popular combination for deeper muscular release, and the 90-minute Full Combo session brings together deep tissue massage, hot stones, cupping and acupuncture.

Who shouldn't have a deep tissue massage?

Tell me before treatment if you are pregnant, take blood-thinning medication, have a clot or circulation condition, a skin condition or infection, a recent injury or surgery, or any cancer diagnosis. Treatment can often be adjusted, and sometimes it is better to wait or check with your GP first.

What should I wear and what happens in the session?

Wear anything comfortable. You'll be covered with towels, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. We start with a short chat about where you hold tension, then go straight into treatment.

How often should I have a massage?

It depends on what you're dealing with. For a specific problem a few sessions close together tends to work best, and for general upkeep many people come every few weeks. I'll give you an honest recommendation after your first visit.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have a new, severe or worsening symptom, please see your GP first.

Who will treat me and what are their qualifications?

Samir Mlik, founder of The Healing Hand, who offers deep tissue, hot stone and Swedish massage, is qualified in Chinese cupping therapy, and holds a TCM Acupuncture Diploma from Total Therapy Training in London. You'll see Samir at every session.
